Imagine waking up at home and that same afternoon you are boom netting with dolphins, snorkelling in the sparkling waters of offshore islands, discovering koalas in their natural habitat or sand-boarding a coastal desert wilderness.Come on and discover Port Stephens……So much water – So much fun…..

dolphin watch australiaDid you know that Port Stephens is 2 ½ times the size of Sydney Harbour and is part of the largest Marine Park in NSW? Many activities take advantage of this magnificent playground.

Port Stephens is best known for its dolphins and tourists come from all around the world to watch them. The local tourist boats provide the best way to interact with them and give you understanding of their complex behaviour. You might want to enhance your experience and go snorkelling and sailing or take the day off to Broughton Island national park 11 nautical miles north of the port or enjoy a sea kayak tourcheck out various cruises on offer here

During winter and spring over 13,000 humpback whales are migrating from their feeding ground in Antarctica to the warm water of the coral seas. It is one of the best spot in the country to watch them from land or at close range from the boats. Whale watching boats depart twice daily from Nelson Bay from mid May to Mid November.

Going to the beach?  Which one? Port Stephens has 26 golden sandy beaches to choose from: Beaches safe for the kiddies, beaches for experience surfers, beaches for the ones wanting to learn. Beaches for snorkelling, beaches perfect for a family picnic, beach for 
naturists, beach for 4WD, the list goes on and on. Talk to us and we will point you to the right direction.

Get your blood pumping on a high-speed boat “Thundaraft” or hire a Jet Ski for a ride. Try your hands at reeling a big one on a deep sea fishing tour. Heighten your experience with parasailing and remember the sky’s the limit when viewing Port Stephens from a helicopter or seaplane.

 Discovering the Dunes…..

Our coastal desert wilderness, the Stockton Bight sand dunes is truly one of nature’s masterpieces. Whatever you’re level of adventure, the dunes offer something for everyone. Explore by foot or tag along in command of your own 4WDQuad bike or join a 4WD or US Army Hummer tour and sand-board down 40mt high dunes. Surprise your partner and saddle up for a horse ride along the beach or take the kids for a camel ride.

In touch with Nature…

Tomaree headland is the most visited part of the National park right at the end of Shoal Bay Beach it offer magnificent views of the port and the offshore islands. The largest group of islands in NSW, but there is many more walks through the.Tomaree National Park, which conserves 2318 hectares of diversified coastal hinterland. Keep your eyes open for

Koalas, rare native birds and enjoy the impressive wildflower display of Gymea. If you prefer to drive don’t miss the Gan Gan lookout and take in the amazing 360degree panorama over the water and land. Travel out to the Tilligerry Peninsula Habitat or stop off at Oakvale farm to get up close and personal with the koalas, kangaroos and other animals, the kids will love the interaction!

Family Fun day…..

With so much to do, the kids won’t have time to drive you crazy. Keep them entertained with Toboggan rides or mini golf. Try go-karting or for a slower pace – hire a pushbike, spend some time at the beach and enjoy a family BBQ at one of our many parks. Swim and feed the Sharks at the Shark and Ray Centre.Take in an evening movie orTen pin bowling before sending your exhausted babies to bed.

On the Food and Wine Trail…

Fresh, local produce abounds around the peninsula: Oysters, Avocados and Macadamias and even figs can be purchase straight from the farm they are culinary delights for everyone. From the Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants, you will find the freshest of seafood from the bay to your plate but for dinning with a difference don’t miss the dinner cruise experience.It is only fair to say that with good food comes good wine, and Port Stephens is lucky to have local wineries and a Brewery and the Hunter Valley at its door steps supplying world-class vineyards.  Breakfast lunch or dinner, Port Stephens’s chefs have it covered with exquisite, mouth-watering dishes featuring local produce.

For the Art and History Buff…

Step back in time by taking a heritage walk. Discover the pioneering history of Port Stephens when you visit historic homes. Both lighthouses of the area are great to visit in their own right. The outer Light house on Fingal island is often accessible at low tide but be vigilant and talk to NPWS about your expedition its worth it but need to be planned. The inner light house on Nelson head has very easy access and shelter a little museum and restaurant with great views. Learn about the convicts, ghosts and dangers faced by the crews on passing ships. Visit the coastal patrol and the Community art centre from where you could perhaps take home a piece of art created by one of “The Bays” many talented artists.

A day on the Green…

Port Stephens is the home of 3 excellent golf courses.  Hire a cart or enjoy the walk, you may even find yourself accompanied by a Kangaroos on the green.  After your game stay for lunch and a cold beer while enjoying the view over the greens. Remember to ask about 3-course deals.

Port Stephens Taekwondo Championships

Port Stephens Tae Kwon Do Championships, this high exposure event will be held on the 10th & 11th March 2018 at  Tomaree Educational Centre Multipurpose Complex, Salamander Bay 2317. We expect to attract over 200 competitors. This will be the fourth annual tournament allowing clubs from across Australia as well as International Guests to compete at all levels, from beginner to  elite, with local, national and international competitors attending. 

Tae Kwon Do is a growing sport with representation in over 200 countries. Tae Kwon Do has been an Olympic sport since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Holding this tournament annually, will increase the popularity of this growing Olympic sport and also promote the Port Stephens and the Hunter area. Tae Kwon Do, associated sponsors and the community at large will benefit from this event by creating awareness of the Tae Kwon Do sport whilst promoting a healthy and positive lifestyle. This event will also further expand the sport allowing for the development of future elite athletes that one day may represent our State and Country.

Port Stephens Taekwondo Championships is supported by Port Stephens Council, with the event being sanctioned by the governing body of STA with support by multiple state governing bodies. At present we have confirmation of multiple Tae Kwon Do competitors from local, National and International clubs attending this event. The attributes of taekwondo promotes self-discipline, self-control, respect and integrity which inevitably become A Way of Life
